Art Gallery
Artist Statement:
This page highlights my art practice! I strongly believe that I am not only a teacher, but also an artist. Allowing me to better understand teaching art, but also helping my ability to support students in the art classroom and become artists themselves.
I have always wanted to be a teacher, but never really knew what I would teach. I was also always an art kid; it was my favorite class, and I would end up spending all my extra time in the art classrooms. I eventually figured it out thanks to CSU's program, but even now, there is not only one art class I like to teach. Before college, I mostly worked with pottery, and that was my concentration here. I have come to enjoy working with all different mediums of art, and though I love working with clay, I think I enjoy teaching it even more. My current practice is a little bit of everything, fibers, sculpture, painting, and pottery. I spend my time making things that bring me joy, and this gallery represents that.
"Raspberry Pony"
Fibers
2026
I created this piece to be a part of a gallery show celebrating the year of the fire horse alongside over 80 other local artists. All the fabric was sourced second-hand to have a large variety.

"Bundle Bowl"
Stoneware
2024
This was made for a tinfoil sager firing. The goal was to have many spots where the different chemicals could interact with one another.

"Floral Coral" (left) and "Funky Flower" (right)
Stoneware
2022
I was exploring different flower petal forms on vertical coil-built vessels. I did not want to create flowers but something with the familiar form.

"Pumpkin Brew"
Porcelain
2022
This is a series of 5 slip-cast teapots. Using a porcelain slip and 3 different plaster molds to create all the different pieces of a teapot.

"Garden Party Set"
Stoneware
2022
I was exploring what a set in pottery is and how to create a set for a specific scenario.

"Honey Roasted"
Stoneware
2022
For this set, I was focused on creating a strong, simple form to be able to experiment with different glazes.

"Cosmic Daze"
Yarn
2021
Hand-woven with hand-dyed warp using a variety of synthetic dye colors.

"Indigo Table"
Yarn
2021
I was able to dye my weft using indigo. I was exploring functional art through creating these placemats.

Honeycomb
Wire and Yarn
2021
My love of hexagons comes out in the piece "Honeycomb." I was exploring armature and whether an armature is to be seen or not to be seen.

"This Little Piggy"
Woodcut Print
2020
The theme is about funding the arts because of how vital they are to culture.

"Self Portrait No. 3"
Mixed Media
2020
This was created at the peak of quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Made with ink and oil pastels to represent the current feelings of being sent home from school and creating art at home.

"The Bean"
chicken wire and fabric
2019
I created this heaviness using tulle, a very airy material. Commenting on how above, or on the surface, life might be light and airy, but really, there is so much that could be weighing you down, even if it seems like not that heavy to carry.

"Self Portrait No. 1"
Charcoal
2019
This was one of the first times I ever drew myself. I did a subtractive process with the charcoal, and it is now something I love doing with my students.

"60°"
Plywood
2019
"60°" was something I created because I love hexagons and involved cutting many 60° angles.

"An Unexpected Result"
Mixed Media
2019
My prompt for this collage was to act like a preschooler, no worry about the final result, just having fun getting there. Turned out to be one of my favorite 2D pieces I have ever created. I like to do something similar with my students the first week of class to get to know them.
