Art Gallery

Artist Statement:
This page highlights my art practice! I strongly belief that I am not only a teacher, but also an artist. Allowing me to better understand teaching art, but also helping my ability to support students in the art classroom and become artists themselves.

I have always wanted to be a teacher but never really knew what I would teach. I was also always an art kid, it was my favorite class and I would end up spending all my extra time in the art classrooms. I eventually figured it out thanks to CSU's program but even now there is not only one art class I would want to teach. Before college, I mostly worked with pottery, and that was my concentration here. I have come to enjoy working with all different mediums of art and though I love working with clay, I think I enjoy teaching it even more. My current practice it a little bit of everything, fibers, sculpture, painting, and pottery. I spend my time making things that bring me joy and this gallery represents that.
These two pieces, "Floral Coral" (left) and "Funky Flower" (right) were apart of a series I made in 2022. I was exploring different flower petal forms on vertical vessels. I was not wanting to create flowers but something with the familiar form.
"Cosmic Daze" created in 2021 on the loom with synthetic dyed warp.
"Pumpkin Brew" created in 2022 is a series of 5 slip cast teapots. Using a porcelain slip and 3 different plaster molds to create all the different pieces of a teapot.

"The Bean" created in 2019 using chicken wire and fabric. I created this heaviness using tulle a very airy material. Commenting on how above, or on the surface, life might be little and airy, but really there is so much that could be weighing you down, even if it seems like not that heavy to carry.
"Self Portrait no 3" was created in peak quarantine during the COVID 19 Pandemic. Made in 2020 with ink and oil pastels to represent the current feelings of being send home from school and creating art along at home.
"60°" was something I created because I love hexagons. This was created in 2019 out of plywood and was a lot of cutting 60° angles.
"This Little Piggy" is a wood cut print created in 2020. The theme is about funding the arts because of hope vital they are to culture.
"Indigo Table" was created in 2021 using an indigo dyed weft. I was considering functionality and art through creating these placemats
My love of hexagons comes out again in the pice "Honeycomb" created in 2021. I was exploring armature and cover in this pice using copper wire and yarn.
"An Unexpected Result" created in 2019 using a multitude of materials. My prompt for this collage was act like a preschooler, no worry about the final result just having fun getting there. Turned out to be one of my favorite 2D pieces i have ever created.
